Prevalence of visual disturbances among medical undergraduate students of a tertiary care teaching hospital in South Kerala

Background: Uncorrected errors of refraction are the leading cause moderate to severe visual impairment. This study helps determine risk factors and prevalence refractive error among medical students evaluate uncorrected acuity them. Aim was disturbances undergraduate students. Methods: A cross sectional conducted 200 Data on socio-demographic characteristics, type errors, for frequency eye examinations were collected through questionnaires. detected using Snellens chart near vision tested jaeger’s chart. Appropriate statistical tests applied data analysed package social sciences (SPSS) version 21. Results: Out total participants, majority females (61.5%), mean age participants 21.51±1.33, 11.5% examined first time this study, 51% suffering from some sort disturbance which 80% having myopia, 50% spent more than two hours per day reading books, 72.5% had habit in dim light. seen 22% subjects 15% with positive family history showed acuity. Conclusions: an effort identify acuity; myopia common observed followed by hypermetropia astigmatism.
